Deputy tried to smuggle 60 MDMA pills in Skittles bags onto cruise ship: Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office

A shocking incident has emerged involving a deputy from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Francisco Melo, who has been arrested on allegations of drug trafficking. The six-year veteran of the department is accused of attempting to smuggle MDMA pills cleverly concealed in Skittles candy bags.

Authorities revealed that Melo had been under investigation after reportedly selling 12 MDMA pills to an undercover informant in December for $240. This led investigators to discover his larger plan: smuggling MDMA onto a Royal Caribbean cruise ship hosting a dance festival. Melo allegedly intended to distribute the drugs during the event, using the Skittles packaging as a deceptive method to transport the pills.

On Thursday, as Melo arrived at PortMiami, law enforcement, supported by a K9 unit, conducted a search that uncovered five Skittles bags filled with approximately 60 MDMA pills. He was immediately arrested and now faces multiple drug-related charges.

This case has sparked concerns about the abuse of power by law enforcement officials. It underscores the importance of strict oversight to prevent illegal activities within police ranks. As this case unfolds, it raises questions about how such behavior went undetected within the department for so long.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has not yet commented on the matter, but Melo’s arrest represents a serious breach of trust and highlights the ongoing challenges of combating drug trafficking, even among those sworn to uphold the law.
